    We are pleased to announce that last Thursday 20 September 2012, Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) have taken delivery of VOS Atlanta. This new addition to the VOS fleet was delivered from Fujian Southeast Shipyard in China at 15.30 hours local time.

    VOS Atlanta is a 59-metre “A class” anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel and the second of three vessels being built at this yard for Vroon with the additional class ABS notation “Oil recovery Class 2”.

    The “A-class” vessels are slightly more advanced than the “H-type” and “T-Type” AHTS vessels also operated by Vroon, having a bigger bow thruster (8 MT) and, in addition, a stern thruster (6 MT). Consequently, they have improved manoeuvring and station-keeping capabilities. VOS Atlanta has a DP-1 notation.

    The vessel will leave the yard 24 September 2012 days and will be operated by Vroon Offshore Services Pte Ltd in Singapore.

    On Wednesday 8 August 2012, Vroon took delivery of the first new daughter craft from Delta Power Group UK in Southampton. Delta Power Group is a UK company who have been operating since 1979 designing and building rescue crafts for the Oil, Gas and Marine Industry from their fabrication facility in Stockport, Cheshire.

    The craft has the following specification;

    Loa / Bm / Dft 10.6 x 3.36 x 0.71
    Total weight, including fuel (430 litres) 3 crew and 9 survivors @ 85 kg each, 7062 kg
    Engines Yanmar 6 LPA-STZP
    Waterjets Hamilton HJ241

    This craft is the first of a series of seven daughter crafts which will be built for Vroon to the highest standards in Delta's facility.

    In addition to the current class and statutory requirements for this ship type, Vroon added additional safety design initiatives based on their extensive operational experience, namely;

    • Increased hull strengthening to absorb the increased slamming the craft will encounter in the North Sea.
    • Increased strength and arrangement to allow increased weight allowance of 10 kg over current legislation. i.e. Manning weight of 85 kg/person rather than current 75 kg/person.
    • Jet drives
    • New six cylinder electronic fuel & emission efficiency engines (2 * 315 bhp).
    • Single point Lift couplings c/w/davit docking interface.
    • A newly designed fendering system featuring a solid buoyant system constructed using polyurethane coated, closed cell foam sections that ensures the fender will not absorb or hold any sea water and allows individual sections to be changed out if damaged.

    In order to be acceptable for Bureau Veritas (BV), MCA and Vroon, these daughter crafts have to undergo a series of stringent functional and operational safety tests which the craft passed with flying colours ! During testing, the craft was impressive and displayed excellent manoeuvrability during trials and comfortably achieved 34 knots with seven people on board.

    Although this daughter craft will be transported to China as a prototype for testing and synchronising equipment on the six mother vessels currently being built in Nanjing, once deliveries are complete in China and the UK, all vessels will be reunited in UK waters to strengthens Vroon's fleet of ERRVs in the North Sea.

    Attending the delivery were Marcel van der Ploeg from the Newbuilding Team Vroon B.V., Gordon Coull, Vroon Offshore Services Ltd's FRC Workshop Manager and Stuart Thom, Manager of Ship Management Vroon Offshore Services Ltd.

    The next delivery date for a daughter craft from Delta is expected to be at the beginning of October
